We have an exciting opportunity available for a Central Controller to join our busy team at our Head Office in Bordesley. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a high quality and reliable service through radio contact with drivers on the road. We are looking for a professional, helpful, friendly and efficient individual to manage radio calls and effectively deal with information. The teams’ prime objective is keeping bus services running for customers and assisting the driver at all time.


Key accountabilities:

  • Monitor the efficiency of services operated and ensure that appropriate action is taken to rectify any problems via AVL system or other means to ensure efficient reliable service delivery
  • Work with key staff, Customer Service Managers and Inspectors to ensure all services operate to a high standard and in accordance with set reliability targets
  • Identify and implement solutions where targets are not being met
  • Liaise with Garage Engineering Departments to ensure that breakdowns are responded to quickly, efficiently and with minimum disruption to customers. To ensure that Lost KMs are recorded and reported to the relevant garage
  • Ensure Company and legislative regulations are adhered to in respect of the bus service operation
  • Setup and communicate short notice diversions to all relevant staff
  • Construct effective reports to management regarding service reliability and driver conduct
  • To ensure relevant information is passed to Network Planning teams to highlight areas of repeated disruption and Engineering teams to highlight repeat vehicle defects
  • To liaise with external bodies as required (police, ambulance service etc) in the event of serious highway or operational disruption


Experience and knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the West Midlands bus and highway network
  • Experience in an operational environment
  • Professional, excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and Drivers Hours Regulations, health and safety regulations
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A valid PCV licence and advantage
