Midland Metro

Midland Metro opened in 1999 and runs between Birmingham and Wolverhampton serving 26 stops including West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Bilston.  It has recently been extended to serve Birmingham City Centre at Grand Central Tram Stop for New Street Station, and further extensions are scheduled to be built over the next few years.

The trams have recently been upgraded meaning we now offer a state-of-the art light rail system that provides safe, comfortable, smooth and quick transport across the West Midlands.  It is also environmentally friendly as power is generated by overhead electrical wires which supply a 750 volt direct current to the tram meaning they are zero pollution at point of use - helping to improve the air quality and noise levels.

Midland Metro, based in Wednesbury, is a 24 hour operation, with trams running in service between 04:30 and 00:30 each day, with maintenance and cleaning being conducted throughout the day and night.  

The tram line and trams have been designed with safety and security in mind.  All stops are well lit and are monitored by closed circuit television (CCTV) and there are direct links via a help point intercom with the Control Room.  CCTV has also been introduced onboard vehicles where a help point on board connects passengers to the Driver.  

Customer Service Representatives (Conductors) operate on each tram both to assist passengers where required and to give each customer the opportunity to buy their ticket while travelling.
